i fulfilled one of my new year’s resolutions this sunday when i signed up for and completed a 5K — my first in five years! i’ve come a long way from my varsity cross country years when running three 5Ks in a week (in under 24 minutes each time) was nothing. by saturday night, i was having such bad pre-race jitters, you would’ve thought i was running a fucking marathon the next day. is this dinner too greasy? am i getting enough carbs? how many glasses of water have i had tonight? are you sure i won’t look weird if i’m only running in trainers and not racing flats? (answer: nobody wears racing flats in a real adult 5K, apparently. they all do, however, break out their cutest running gear. thank god i didn’t show up in my red sox shirt.)
anyway. the point is, sunday morning came around, and everything went as planned. it was a sloppy, drizzly, muddy 10AM run, but it felt great to be running fast(ish) again. and i met my goal of going sub-30 (crushed it by nearly 4 minutes!) and, more importantly, never giving in to stopping or walking.
so i’m pretty pleased. and even though it felt like the longest 3.1 miles in the world, i think i’m up for doing it again next month.
word.
